One Sketch, Four Quick and Easy Holiday Cards
Posted on November 27, 2008
Well, today is Black Friday which means that the holiday season is officially upon us. The shopping, preparing, get togethers, projects, etc, etc….it’s the most wonderful AND BUSIEST time of the year! So today I have a little sketch for you that could possibly make your holiday to-do list a tad bit easier. I decided to come up with a very basic card sketch that I could tweek slightly to create four different Christmas cards.  And these are very simple cards that can be finished QUICKLY! Just what I need in a holiday project!
Here’s the basic sketch I came up with….
Not too exciting, I know! :) But by changing the card orientation and modifying the design a little each time, here’s the set of four cards I created…
And like I said, these are fairly simple cards. I’m a less is more kind of gal sometimes! :) Here’s a glimpse of each up close.
This was the first one I did in the set. I obviously changed the orientation of the card from the sketch, but it still has the ribbon along the edge and the same sentiment placement. I cut the cute little trees out of the White Christmas paper and then layered some on top of each other with pop dots. Finally I added some pearl strand stickers for garland and a sentiment from the Tinsel Town Press Ons.
For this one I used a circle punch to punch out a hole in the front of the card. Then I used some patterned paper on the inside of the card (so it shows through the hole) along with some more Press Ons. (The black circle, the snowflake, and the “Merry Christmas”.) The paper on the top part of the card is Fifth Avenue.
This one also follows the sketch pretty closely. I used some of the A Christmas Carol paper on this along with more Press Ons (I love these Tinsel Town Press Ons!!!) and a little tree made out of ribbon. Super simple!
And finally this last one which is probably the easiest of all! Just a stamp (in red) with two more Press Ons (tree and sentiment) and a little length of the pearl stickers.
I don’t think I will ever find the time to hand make ALL of my Christmas cards….but I definitely can find some time to make another set of these for those extra special people on my list! Maybe each year I work up to making more and more…. we’ll see. :) Happy Friday! And Happy Holidays!

Words of Thanksgiving
Posted on November 26, 2008
There are many signs at this time of the year that remind each of us to celebrate how blessed we are in life. Everyone has something to be thankful for– whether it is with monetary things or with the beauty and gifts of the senses that everyone is able to enjoy, if they recognize them as such.
One way of acknowledging our blessings is through our scrapbook pages. By creating with our thoughts and photos the pages can tell a story, capture a memory, or even testify of our faith. Sometimes there are many words on a page and sometimes only a title, but either way they can be one of the strongest elements on the page.

I chose to highlight the intent of my page by making the “title” a part of the verse. The Holly Doodle alphabet stickers add a pop of bold letters to the verse and because I layered them onto a transparency, they literally lift off of the page and get your attention as to what the theme of the photos and design are.
May each of you be overjoyed by your Thanksgiving celebrations this year and blessed with continued good things.

Monday Muse - Fresh Holiday Colors!
Posted on November 24, 2008
Good morning, everyone!
There’s no doubt, being 31 sleeps away from Christmas, that you’ve been seeing Christmas decor, commercials, coffee choices, and even Christmas tunes popping up everywhere already! I love the holidays, and apart from all the lovely traditional winter goodies, something I love so much about them is finding really cool, fresh, and unexpected color combinations for my holiday cards and scrapbook pages - who wants the same old rich red and evergreen green in their scrapbooks year after year? Time to mix it up!
As I went to gather supplies for this Christmas card, I was super-inspired flipping through the two newest Pink Paislee collections, “Tinsel Town” and “Sweet Cakes”. I love the flourished trees and snowflakes of the more traditional Christmas collection (whose colors still break out of the typical Christmas box on their own..), but the bright pinks, yellows, lime greens, and oranges in “Sweet Cakes” really inspired me to break out of the traditional box and combine the two lines for a unique, new color twist on the typical Christmas card. Here’s what I came up with:
I love how the playful, warm yellows and oranges bounce off of the cooler pinks and greens - it feels really fresh and fun! A very happy feeling holiday card, I think! So this year, when you’re making your cards or packaging up gifts, instead of reaching for the tried and true reds and greens, take a chance and throw a little pinch of lime green or bright pink in and mix it up a little!
Dabble in a color combination that’s unexpected and totally new to you - before jumping in, if you’re a little wary, compare swatches of colors, look for color combinations online using google, or line up the patterned papers you want to use, making sure they compliment one another before devoting yourself to them and cutting anything out. And most of all, have fun! Its unavoidable if you’re using such fun patterned paper and making heartfelt gifts for the ones you love. Happy day!
