Wacky Wednesday…

October 14, 2009 by admin

time to discover funky new ways to put your favorite Pink Paislee products to use! I know we all love flowers on our layouts, and there are certainly a plethora of designs out there to choose from. But, why not make your own?

They’re super-easy, and a great way to add some unique interest to your layouts. Let’s get started, shall we?

First, start off with a 5″ x 5″ square of patterned paper. Then, fold it in half 3 times on the diagonal…

Next, you’ll want to take a pair of VERY SHARP scissors. The sharper, the better… you’ll need ‘em to cut through all of those layers of paper with some precision. Cut a rounded edge into the top of the triangle…

When you unfold it, you will have the beginnings of a flower that look like so…

Now, I like to crumple the flower all up until I get a nice, wrinkly, distressed look. Not only does the crumpling give your flower a vintage feel to it, but it makes the paper a little softer and more pliable to work with for the next couple of steps. Flatten the flower back out, and use a glue dot to attach a large (about 1″ diameter) brad to the center of the back of the flower…

After you affix the brad, wrap the paper around to the back of the brad, and secure with a small rubber band. I like to use the rubber bands made for little girls’ hair… don’t worry about the bright colors, you won’t be able to see the rubber band when we’re done. Now, you should have something that resembles a badminton shuttlecock…

Now, take the “petals,” and flatten them back out until you have your flower…

You’ll have to fiddle and tug on the paper to get it to look exactly the way you want. The paper is pretty sturdy, but don’t tug too hard and tear your flower. After you get it looking like you want, turn it over and flatten out the brad fasteners. This will hold your flower in place…

Now, you’re ready to add the bling and little extras to your flower. The possibilities here are endless. You can add brads, buttons or glitter to the center of the flowers, glitter the petal edges, stretch some felt flowers around the center of your flower to add another layer of petals. Just play!

And, then add those pretty little blooms to your pages…

Hope you have a wonderfully wacky Wednesday, and create something unusual!

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I love these flowers. I have been making them for days to make your wreaths for Christmas gifts for my family. I wanted to let you know that while doing this I ran out of the right sized brads and in desperation I turned to my button drawer…..the buttons work just as well as the brads! :) I was thrilled as I have millions of buttons but not as many brads.

Thanks for the wonderful inspiration! :)
