Wednesday Word It: Family Ties
Posted on March 10, 2010
It’s time for another edition of Wednesday Word It, and the chosen words for today are “Family Ties” (No, not the Michael J. Fox sitcom. Not really :p).
I am sure most of you with children in the family will recognize the feeling to some degree, wheter it’s your own children or your siblings - this weird feeling of witnessing lifes repeatable cycle when watching little mini-mes running all over while reminiscing your own childhood…
Personally I find it both quite amusing and emotional (in a good way) watching mine and my sisters youngest daughters play together. Despite living at each our parts of the country and thus only get to meet each others like twice or if lucky, thrice a year, they go so amazingly well together in just a snap once they meet. The age difference between me and my sister is fourteen months - just the same age difference between our daughters. You could also argue that they look like exact copies of ourselves when we were little (although I think my daughter is way prettier than I was. And I’m quite certain I wasn’t as pouty or pesky or sassy ;p) - which makes it so much more fun watching them interact together. Here’s to hoping the instant connection them between won’t fade when they grow up…
I used the most recent photos of us all together for this layout, and pulled out the lovely “Cupid” papers to create this layout. Most of the tags on the side is made from the postcards-papers, where I cut out the various frames and paired them with a tag from the 365 degrees flip note journal (*love* these!) to make the journaling border.
The border was layered then sewn upon to make it a bit more interesting (or really, I just love my sewing machine ;p).
I snuck some pieces from the glitter alpha set and the cork button comes from the Bayberry collection. Also, to add to the romantic feeling on the layout I distressed the edges of the papers with distress ink and roughed them some once sewn on the layout.
The scalloped circlebackground here was also cut from the postcards-paper, and embellished with the flowers and pins and butterfly (made from a scrap of paper from the project - an awesome way to use your scraps and at the same time add to the uniformity of the layout). The flowers are sprayed with glimmermist by the way, but it’s not really visible on the photo :(.
Thanks for letting me share my thoughts and feelings on this subject…can’t wait till they’re coming over later this spring and to watch our daughters play together again!
Tuesday Tip - It’s Ok To Cover Up Text On Die Cut Tags
Posted on February 23, 2010
Good morning!
Ania here today, and I’m just gonna share a pretty simple tip with you. I love the punch out die cuts (and general diecuts, cards and chipboards), but I have to admit that I’m not too big on pre-printed words and phrases. Still, I love the colors and shapes of the ones found in the aforementioned punch outs, so I decided I wanted to use them on my layout still despite the word not really matching the theme of the layout..
Here’s the punch out in question (actually there’s two pictured here, but only the one on the front here had a word on it).
Here’s the punch out again, this time w/a cute little paper-embellishment covering the word.
Here’s the full layout..using papers from both 365 degrees and Bayberry Cottage.
So in short - the morale of this post is simply just - don’t let the fact that an embellishment you like already have something printed on it that doesn’t fit your purpose. Just cover it up wheter it’s with paint, ink, another embellishment or with paper and use it still.
Monochromatic Monday: Earthtones
Posted on February 8, 2010
Hello there fellow Pink Paislee-lovers!
I’m Ania from Norway and this is my very first post here at Pink Paislee, so please be gentle with me
Today’s Monochromatic Monday is inspired by the absolutely lovely earthtones found in the elegant “Queen Bee“-line, specifically the various brown and subdued yellow-hues.
Here’s my layout - I love taking pictures of the food when eating out, especially if we’re at a posh restaurant. Unfortunately my hubby doesn’t share the same views as me, as my photography prevents him from actually eating his food for a while (which can be a bit annoying when you’re hungry I must admit) :p Hence the title “Gievf foodz”, which is strongly influenced by lolspeak/gamerspeak by the way
(It just means - “give me food” typed the way gamers would write. And yes, we’re both gamers so heh). But I digress..
I specifically picked papers with strong presence of brown in them - “Worker Bee“, “Bees Wax” and “Honeycomb“. After putting them together I figured I needed another color to balance it up a bit and decided to go for yellow, as the papers chosen already had a faint yellow hue to them. The yellow ribbon pleats and the bella brad were perfect accents for this layout, along with a tiny strip from the 6×6″ paper pad at top.
The edges were sponged with dark brown distress ink and mounted on 3d foam to create more dimension on the otherwise fairly flat layout.
And as usual when I just go ahead and scrap something with no planning I end up with (imo) no real space for journaling. It’s annoying, especially when I actually do have lots to say about the matter. The solution? Hidden journaling behind the title, created with a strip of paper that’s folded in two and with the big brad functioning as a kind of “doorknob” to open the flap.
And there you have my monochromatic layout - brown with subtle hues of yellow enforced by the three yellow accents on the layouts.
Thanks for reading and have a lovely monday+week!
