Monochromatic Monday – Purple

Hello everyone!  Long time, no see.  It has been a while since I have done a blog post on the Pink Paislee blog, and I am glad to be back.  :)

Today is Monochromatic Monday, and I have a layout to share with you.  When deciding on a color for this project, I went back through some of the more recent Monday posts to see what colors everyone had previously chosen.  One color I didn’t see was purple.  I hear quite a lot of people say that they don’t like purple or they have a hard time using it in their projects, but I really love the color.  It is one of my favorites.  Plus, being the mother of two girls, you can find something that is purple in almost any room in my house.  LOL   I went through my Pink Paislee supplies and found purple in three collections:  Hocus Pocus, Bayberry Cottage, and Twilight.  And because purple pairs so well with gray, I snuck in some Parisian Anthology as my neutral.  Gorgeous stuff!

I chose some photos of my daughter, Harper, with our dog, Phoenix.  Every time I look around, I find Harper with one of our dogs, petting, hugging, or giving them kisses.  She is such an affectionate kid.

For the papers, I used Beautiful Butterfly for the background, Skeleton Soiree, Hocus Pocus, and Sunset for the different shades of purple, and Fancy Filigree and Architectural Arch for the neutral accents.  For the embellishments, I used one of the Flower Darlings, a Flip Notes journaling spot, a couple of Punchouts die-cuts, a Cork Button, a Bella Brad, and the Expressions Cushies Alphabet.

I printed my journaling onto patterned paper with my computer and printer, and added some hand stitching details.  For the flower, I layered the brad, button, and cork button, and added a stitch and some adhesive to hold it in place.

I hope that my layout inspires you give the color purple a try.  You just might like it.  ;)

Highlight your journaling – Friday Feelings

As I have told you all before, I am not a journaler.  So when I saw I had Friday Feelings for my blog topic this month, I really needed to sit down and think about what to do for my project.  I thought a fun way to put focus on my journaling would be through sewing.  This is one of my favorite techniques to use, and I just love the color and texture it can add to a project.

So, I went ahead and stamped out my journaling (since my journaling was fairly short, it didn’t take too long), and then I stitched under each line to highlight it.  I added a few zigzag stitches over the lines to add a little more visual interest.  If you tend to do more journaling than I do, the zigzag stitches would be great for highlighting specific words.

Then, I just added some fun accents from the Cupid and Expressions Alphabets collections and a few little extras to finish off my layout.

Next time you are looking for a fun way to highlight your journaling, try adding a few stitches.  If you don’t machine sew, you can always try hand stitching, stamps, or doodling to get a similar effect.

Hope you all have a happy holiday!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

wacky wednesday – think outside of the box

Literally!  With the holidays just around the corner, I decided to focus my project this month on Christmas gifting.  If you are anything like me (and I am sure some of you are), you wait until the VERY last minute to get something together for the teacher, the bus driver, the mailman, etc.  I am terrible about that.  The bad thing is that when it is time to actually get something together, it is usually the night before and too late to go the store to buy a card or gift box/bag.  So, I decided to show you how to get a little creative.

For the gift box, I used the clear container from one of my Winsome Chipboard packs.  I just cut off the little hang tab, and decorated it with paper, a die-cut, and Borderlines clear sticker from the Mistletoe and Co. collection.  I also added a little candy and ribbon, and it is all ready to go.

Since I was going with a clear packaging, I decided to make a matching card.  I used the clear cover from one of the Winsome sticker books for the card base.  Added paper, a rub-on, and canvas patch from the Mistletoe and Co. collection also.  I cut the tree from the canvas patch out to use on the front of the card.  (I am planning on using the frame of the patch on a later project.  ;) )  I then added some ribbon and a gem to finish off the card.

I hope you will keep this project in mind when you are looking to make up a quick little card and gift box for someone on your Christmas list.  You really don’t have to look any farther than your own scrapbook stash.

Hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving.  Thanks for stopping by!

Stampin’ Sunday – Spooky

Hello everyone!  Hope you are all having a great weekend so far.  It cooled down here this weekend, and I just LOVE it!  It really puts me in a Fall kind of mood.  Halloween will be here soon.  We just love Halloween at our house… the decorating, carving pumpkins, dressing up, candy… all of it.  Are you ready for it?  We made a trip to the pumpkin patch yesterday and did a little costume shopping.  Not much longer to go now.  :)

For today’s Stampin’ Sunday blog post, I went with a Halloween theme and focused on using stamps in an unexpected way.  I  used the little postage stamp from the Twilight Impressions Stamp Set to make spooky eyes that ended up being the O’s in my sentiment.

For this, I just inked and stamped the circle part of the postage stamp.  This was very easy, and it adds a fun and unusual twist to the card.  I also used the All Hallows Eve stamp from the set for some visual interest too.

I hope that this gets you to start looking at your stamps in new ways.

Friday Feelings – quotes

Hello everyone!  Today is Friday Feelings day on the blog.  I have to admit to you all that I was very anxious when I realized that my blogging day fell on Friday this month.  I am not a journaler and never was.  I never kept a diary as a kid, and I don’t like to put my feelings on paper.  (At least not for anyone else to see.)  So for this project I really had to think.

I decided to make a project that focused on a quote.  I really love to use quotes.  They can convey how I feel without having to struggle with coming up with just the right words.  There are so many websites to use for this purpose.  Here are a few of my favorite sites:  ThinkExist.com, Quote Garden, Quoteland.com.  There are tons of others, so if these don’t work for you, just type “quotes” in your favorite search engine and start looking.

My project today is an envelope mini.  I made my envelopes using an AccuCut die, but you can use a regular envelope and just dress it up.  The new Amber Road collection was just perfect for this project.  The focus is on a quote by Helen Keller.  It reads “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose.  All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”  My dad died 25 years ago this November, and I thought this mini would be just right for keeping those special letters and small momentos from him.  Maybe even for writing a letter to him now to put my feelings about this anniversary down on paper.

Products used:  Amber RoadApple Cider, Harvest Hayride, Bonfire, Press OnsPunchouts; TwilightBella Brads, Expressions Glitter Alphabets-Limeade; Captivating: Press Ons

Other products:  binder ring, chipboard heart, letter rub-ons, ribbon

I hope this project will inspire everyone, especially those of you who don’t like to share your journaling with the world, to get your feelings down on paper and put them in a safe place.

So the next time you get stuck on your journaling or just want to keep keep it private, try adding a quote to your project.
